The food and drinks at Bello Gio’s by the River: Authentic Italian flavors that impress from the first bite

Bello Gio’s by the River truly delivers on its promise of authentic Italian flavors in the heart of Amsterdam. From the moment we sat down, the menu had us excited - and every dish lived up to the anticipation. The Vitello Tonnato was silky and flavorful, while the carpaccio and polpette (meatballs) were so good we almost ordered seconds. The highlight for us was definitely the lobster pasta - perfectly cooked pasta topped with a generous, beautifully presented lobster. The steak with truffle and mushroom sauce (see photo!) was another standout, especially paired with crispy roasted potatoes. For dessert, the tiramisu was creamy and rich, and the scroppino made at the table added a fun touch. The cocktails were some of the best we’ve had in Amsterdam, and the wine pairings were spot on. Overall, every bite and sip felt like a mini Italian holiday.

The Atmosphere at Bello Gio’s: Cozy Elegance with a Welcoming Buzz

What really sets Bello Gio’s by the River apart is the atmosphere. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by warm lighting, stylish decor, and a lively open kitchen that fills the space with delicious aromas. We loved the cozy yet modern vibe - it’s the kind of place that feels special but still relaxed, perfect for a date night or a fun dinner with friends. The staff were genuinely friendly and attentive, always ready with a recommendation or a smile. We also appreciated the open bar area, which added to the energy of the room. Even on a chilly November evening, the space felt inviting and comfortable. We can only imagine how lovely the terrace must be in summer, right by the water at NDSM-Kade. Overall, it’s a spot where you instantly feel at home and want to linger just a little longer.
